This is a study skills resource, so I decided it belonged in the dictionary section. There is a wide variety of resources available in multiple subjects as well as overall categories.
Math Dictionary For Kids
This dictionary gives definitions as well as examples in a colorful and organized layout.

This dictionary gives several different definitions.
Cambridge Dictionaries Online
This site has several different dictionary versions available, including Spanish/English and French/English.
OneLook Dictionary Search
This site allows you to search several online dictionaries at one time.
Thesaurus.com
This site works just like the companion site, Dictionary.com.
Encycloedia.com
This site includes parts of history that happened on the current date as well as searching capabilities. The error page for no items found isn't great, but as long as a general search is made, then specifics can be chosen from a list.
Biographical Dictionary
This site contains biographies of more than 28,000 influential people through the ages.
Atlapedia Online
Maps and data about countries around the world can be found here. It is a good starting point for doing a report on a country. Both political and physical maps are avaialble.
Storm Encyclopedia
The Weather Channel supports this site with information as general as global warming to el nino.

This site has some nice timelines. There is a large amount of information here.
World History Archives
The information at this site is arranged by topic.
Institute of Historical Research
This site provides resources for historians. It is based in the UK, so there are different resources than listed at other sites.
HyperHistory
This is an interesting site where you can look at the information for people, history, events, or maps. The items are shown on a timeline and color coded. Click on the specific item to see information about it to the right of the timeline. It is a very visual way of looking at history.
The History Net
The information on this site can be serached or there are links to magazines arranged by historical topics, such as Wild West, British Heritage, and World War II.
BBC History
Categories on this site include Ancient History, British History, World Wars and Recent History.
PBS History
This site includes listings of shows on PBS, links to other historical web pages, resources for teachers and for children.

This site contains instruction on how to write, including grammar and the use of transition words.
Five Paragraph Essay
Step by step instructions on how to write a five paragraph essay can be found here. Narrative, expository, and persuasive essays are also discussed.

These are helpful worksheets to get started on writing.

This site actually has links for math, science, health and geography, as well as English. There are more English related links than the other subjects. There are both free and paid worksheets. There are enough free worksheets to let you decide if you want to pay the yearly fee. The listing of worksheets is very extensive.
Project Gutenberg
This is an extensive listing of online books in English and other languages. The text is mostly downloadable so it can be read offline. Project Gutenberg is the first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented eBooks in 1971 and continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today.
Children's Literature Web Guide
This is an extensive listing of online literature sites. These include book reviews, stories on the web, recommended reading lists and resources for teachers, parents and storytellers.
Online Library of Literature
This site is still growning, but it currently has online text available for over thirty-five author's works.
The Literature Network
This site has over 1200 books, 2000 short stories and poems by over 250 authors and over 8000 quotations.

Interactive Math Activities for K-6
This site includes activities from counting through Pre-Algebra concepts. The site runs very smoothly and has hundreds of activities.
Math Dictionary For Kids
This dictionary gives definitions as well as examples in a colorful and organized layout.
Basic Math Worksheets
This site has a form to fill out to create worksheets for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It also produces answer keys to go along with the worksheets. The worksheets are randomly generated, so there is an endless number of worksheets that can be created.
AAA Math
This site has materials for kindergarten through eighth grade, including algebra and geometry. The site contains tutorials as well as online practice where the answer is checked after clicking a button.
Scientific Calculator
This calculator actually works online. Just click on the picture of the calculator to use it.
CoolMath
This site has lesons on arithmetic and algebra, practice problems, games and a dictionary.
SOS Math
This is a higher end site with Algebra being the lowest level of math. There are example problems to be worked out on paper with links that show step by step how to solve the problems.
Ask Dr Math
This site contains previously asked math questions with answers for elementary, middle, high school and college. The formula sheets are for higher levels of math.
FunBrain Math Baseball
Answer math questions to hit the ball and round the bases. Work with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or a mixture of all of them.

This is a multimedia tour of the solar system.
Science Daily
View up to date science news in many areas. The topics can be browsed or searched at the bottom of the page.
Science.gov
This is an extensive listing of science websites including agriculture, math, the ocean and many more categories.
New York Times Science
The science section of New York Times online articles.
