249	2008-01-19	I added Math Playground http://www.mathplayground.com/index.html to the list of educational games. I saw a worksheet generator that I liked better than the ones I've seen at EdHelper.com. It used JavaScript to set up the initial screen and then went to an asp script to generate a new window with the worksheet which could be turned into a printable version and could print off an answer key as well. It is very flexible and I want to see if I can create something like that at some point. There are a few things I would change about their set up, but overall it is the best worksheet generator I've seen yet.
247	2008-01-19	I created and loaded a conic section crossword puzzle. The online version didn't show the superscripts for the exponents, so I had to modify it to use carrots, but I was able to show the exponents correctly in the printable version. I used the formulas and definitions as well as examples of the conic sections to make the puzzle more robust. The only way to have one word used more than once in the puzzle is to have the singular and plural versions of the words. So I tried to make the definitions sound plural and used the equations for the singular version of the words.

268	2008-02-09	Today I decided to put together a compilation of my writings. I didn't think it would take all that long. I just wanted to pull it all together and annotate my writing with information about when it was written and some of the motivations for my writings. I had the idea of printing it out and binding it to send to some people in my life who might not have had time to find my writings on the website. I also wanted to have a record of why I wrote what I did during this time in my life. It seems important to document this part of my life. I still have more of my writing journal to type up, but I am up to over 130 pages already. I didn't want to include all of my puzzles and worksheets, so I just included a sample of them. Those documents are specially formatted and the formatting doesn't always transfer over into a different document. They can be printed off in their pdf format anyways. Most of my writings are not in pdf format on this website, so this document helps with that.

274	2008-02-14	Since I posted my compilation of writings, I decided why not post the spreadsheet I put together over a year ago with ideas for what I would like to add to this website. I have grand ideas. Some of them have already been implemented on the site and others have a long ways to go. I realized I have not created the magic decoder ring for word problems yet and that needs to be posted on the site. It is how I learned how to do word problems so they didn't seem scary. I used to teach it at the Lake Tahoe Community College when I taught the beginning level of Algebra there. The students responded well to it and thought it was very helpful. I did it as a group activity to fill in the chart on the board and students took notes. I never created a printable version of it, but now that I'm not in the classroom anymore, I think there should be a printable of it. I say Mr. La Duke at John Adams Jr High School was the one who taught it to me and I am just passing it on to other students.

I have an increased number of links to my site from email accounts, which means my website address is being passed from person to person by way of email (cool...). There was a huge number of people on my website over the weekend. 74 people went to my site on Saturday and 85 people went on Sunday. My compilation of writings has been accessed 27 times in the past couple of weeks since I first posted it. People have noticed I am still updating the document. My crayon tote back is suddenly very popular as well. One person accessed it around a 100 times. I'm not sure why that happened, but there are quite a few other people accessing it as well.

283	2008-02-28	I found out from the tips that show up when I open the program up that Bloodshed Dec C++ has the ability to export the code for a program into a web format. I added a page explaining my method for filling them out and why I allow older students to use them instead of calculators. I have actually seen the charts get used less and less over time as they memorize the patterns of numbers by tracing over them so many times with their fingers. 323	2008-04-01	I decided to do a little work on worksheets. The easiest one to do first is the one for the difference of two cubes to go along with the sum of two cubes. I was really lazy and made them almost identical. I decided this was okay because I always taught that these two were almost exactly the same formula. I told the students that the first sign in the formula was the same as the problem and the next sign was the opposite. The last sign was always a plus. If you look at the formulas you will see what I am saying. That way they only had to really learn the formula one time and use it for two different cases.It's listed on the math worksheets page off of the math resources page.

I have continued to include my notes from the author section on each piece included in the document. My cousin said it seemed like a biography written in short stories. 342	2008-04-19	A while ago I made seven coded crossword puzzles. They are so much easier to do on paper because the word lists are included. I couldn't figure out how to get them to show up on the interactive version. I just now loaded them onto the website and listed them on the English crossword page. 339	2008-04-19	The Three Ring Binder Concept has been turned into a pdf document. I included a homework tracking tool page that can be copied and used as is. It has the rational for using a three ring binder as well as an explanation of a supply list for the three ring binder. I linked it to the three ring binder concept page in the study skills section under organizational skills. This can be printed out and passed out to students and/or parents to help students be organized. I have found this concept works with both high and low end students. It can be applied to a single subject or a binder with all subjects in it. Homework is less likely to be lost or forgotten if there is a place to put it and a place to track it. Parents will find it a useful way to keep track of what is going on in school.

346	2008-04-20	I was looking for some old sewing quizzes I used to use when I had a beginning sewing class. Instead, I found an old instruction sheet for a really easy baby quilt pattern that looks great. I taught it as a class at a quilting store in Tahoe in 2003. I had only one student, but it was perfect. She was a retired teacher and a master seamstress. She had never made a quilt and was intimidated by the process. I walked her through it step by step until completion in about 2 1/2 hours from picking fabric to quilting and binding. She was so happy to have a completed quilt. She had friends who were hounding her about making quilts and now she had one to show them so the would leave her alone. The store asked me to teach the class after I used this techniq

I came up with a math go fish page with a link to a pdf version of one deck of cards. I plan to make more than one deck, but for now, there is the addition set of cards from 0-9. People have asked for the preprinted versions for that activity. I guess I made those by accident. So I think I will continue with harder and harder decks of cards for this activity since they can be used in multiple ways.

I think the site was down for part of that time and that is why the stats are missing. People have told me they couldn't access my site for a while. It's nice that people are recognizing my stuff as good to use. People have been taking a look at my LTCC stuff, too. That's where I have a sample syllabus for each class I used to teach. I also have some of my materials I used for those classes posted there as well. The divisibility rules worksheet is the number one download from the site so far this month. Camp songs and the card game 99 are the most searched for things on the site so far this month. Camp songs and math worksheets are very popular on the site, right after the divisibility rules. I like to keep an eye on the statistics, partly so I don't lose any more of them.

I have fifteen up there so far and have received a comment on one of them already. Supposedly there is a pay per click deal that goes on with it. That's a lot higher than just me looking at it when I post. Several days have over 100 visitors. I have linked my eHow articles to this site, so that could be driving some of the traffic at the end of the month. A listing of my eHow articles is listed under the webmaster link. The divisibility rules worksheet is back to the top of the list again. It's followed closely by the camp songs since it is summer camp time right now. The programming packets are also still doing well.
